โฆ Synopsis
This paper is concerned with the parametric instability of multi-span beams elastically supported against translation and rotation at several positions. The beam is subjected to an axial or a tangential periodic load at both ends. The instability regions for the simple and the combination resonances are determined from the coupled Mathieu equations which are derived by applying the Galerkin method to the governing equations. The influences of the load direction, the support stiffness and the number of supports on the instability regions are studied in detail for the simple and the combination resonances.
