A sudderl change in the magnitude and sign of the axial zero field splitting of Cr'+ ' In KCr(SO&-121120 indicative a: o fist order phase transition is ,uzcompanicd by an anomalous divergence of the line width of the high and low field resonances. The lint wd:h effect is attributed to !'iuctuat~ons in the geometry of the (Cr6H20)'+ complex which trlggcrs a sudden dbtortion of tic ccaplcx that is manifested as an abrupt change in the zero field splitting.
