โฆ Synopsis
The goal of developing high perf'ormance simulations has proved to be one of the greatest challenges in parallel and distributed computing. It remains. however, a relatively unknown field to those not directly researching in this area. This Special Issue is dedicated to presenting examples of parallel and distributed simulation and should be of interest to those familiar wi'.h the field and those who are merely curious.
I am indebted to Dr. Stephen Turner of Exeter University, UK, who is the invited author of this Special Issue. His paper presents a discussion concerning one of the most important requirements of parallel and distributed simulation: the need for a standard1 abstract model of computation.
The other contributions in this Special Issue address many of the more interesting topics of the field. Principally. they may be divided into the parallelisation of discrete event simulation, the optimisation of parallel and distributed simulation protocols and the general appliciltion of parallel and distributed simulation.
