✦ Synopsis

Abstract

In this article, a parabolic edge planar monopole antenna for UWB communication is presented. The antenna has a broadband property, and it is structured through the planar monopole and ground with a parabolic edge. The design resembles a self‐complementary structure that changes the curvature along the edge of the monopole and ground. The return loss is greater than 10 dB in the frequency range of 3.1–10.6 GHz. The radiation pattern is about the same as that of the dipole antenna at all frequencies. The results show a maximum gain of 1.37–6.02 dBi at the E‐plane. Β© 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ## Abstract The design of a multiband planar monopole antenna with a RF/battery shielding metal case is described. The prototype of the proposed antenna with 0.8 mm in height and 50 mm in length has been fabricated. The proposed antenna exhibits sufficient bandwidth of 915 MHz (1525–2440 MHz) with
