THE photosensitizing

dyes, pinaverdol and pinacyanol, which are used in the manufacture of panchromatic and orthochromatic plates, and which before the war were made exclusively in Germany, have now been synthesized in this country.

The syntheses of these dyes, which are quinoline derivatives, are described in an article l by Wise, Adams, Stewart, and Lund, of the Color Laboratory of the Bureau of Chemistry.

Two articles 2 describing the synthesis of the intermediates required for the formation of these dyes are published in the same issue of the same journal.
