✦ Synopsis

Many chromatographers

appear to have independently concluded that little or no 'loss of sensitivity results when thicker papers are used for chromatograms which are examined by techniques such as X-ray fihn exposure, or ultraviolet light fluorescence. For this, one valid explanation is the ability to obtain more compact chromatographic spots on thicker papers. But the present study shows that part of the explanation lies in the tendency of chromatographed materials to migrate to the surfaces of the paper as the papers dry.
