Painful neuropathy after diffuse herpes zoster

✦ Synopsis

Neurological complications are observed in 5-15% of herpes zoster patients. The most frequent are postherpetic neuralgia, cranial nerve (especially VII) neuropathy, and segmental motor neuritis. Less frequently meningoencephalitis, myelitis, hemiparesis controlateral (or rarely homolateral) to herpes zoster ophthalmicus, and polyneuritis have been reported. 1,2,[4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13]17,18,20,21 Here we describe the case of a man who developed painful polyneuropathy about 1 month after diffuse herpes zoster.
