✦ Synopsis

discussed in detail. The images in this chapter are clear and informative in demonstrating techniques (such as swabbing for FDR), expected results (some showing casework) and FDR kits. Many of the images indicate that there is a colour change with certain chemical tests used to detect FDR, but these are only shown in black and white. This only slightly detracts from the images as the colour that should be visible is mentioned in the caption and colour photographs would undoubtedly raised the cost of the text.

Overall I found this an enjoyable text that contains a wealth of information relevant to forensic science and the forensic scientist. Some chapters at times get a little lengthy, but this has to do with the huge subject matter they are tackling. Although many of the chapters remain the same as the first edition, there have been enough changes and additions that make this edition a worthwhile purchase for any working laboratory, university or personal library.
