โฆ Synopsis
Dynamic sealing
likely to undergo the thermal distortions that can form gaps for abrasive material to enter. A tube shape also eliminates the tendency for sting and fibrous material to catch on projections, wind around the rotating parts and cause the faces to separate.
Other elements, such as the drive pins, springs and spring holders, are subjected to wear. In the new design, all asymmetrical parts, including the drive slots, were placed inside the seal. The exterior was thus made totally flush so that any turbulence that might induce wear was minimised.
Various measures were taken to prevent the accumulation of material in the slot between the seal ring and the fixed part, which can potentially cement the seal ring in place. First an additional rubber shield was installed to protect the slot from the pumped medium. Heat dissipation from the nearby surfaces was also achieved by placing the slot some distance away from the seal face and by cooling the area.
