โœฆ Synopsis

l~'etreatment of rats with p-chlorophenylalanine methyl ester (PCPA-ME) causes a normally non-effective dose of 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) to disrupt bar-pressing at times when serotonin (5-HT) concentration is depleted. There does not appear to be any correlation between the initial, behaviorallydistruptive effects of PCPA-ME and the action of this compound on 5-HT biosynthesis.

The serotonin agonist qnipazine maleate (1-10 mg/kg, IM) and the serotonin precursor l-5-hydroxytryptophan (5HTP, 930 mg/kg, IM) produced dose-dependent decreases in responding (lever-pressing) of squirrel monkeys maintained under a fixed-ratio 30 schedule of food presentation. The stereotyped behavioral syndrome induced in the rat by apomorphine was enhanced by acute systemic administration of PCPA. This effect was dependent on the dose of PCPA and half-maximal at approximately 150 mg/kg, i.p.; it occurred within 30 min, was greatest between 1 and 5 h and had nearly disap
