The redetermination of the structure of the title compound, C 12 H 22 Si 2 , agrees with the results previously reported by Menczel & Kiss [Acta Cryst. (1975). B31, 1787±1789], but with improved precision. The molecules are located on centres of inversion. As a result, there is just a half molecule

The dinuclear molecule of p-{[(Me 3 Si) 2 CH]Sn(Cl) 2 CH 2 SiMe 2 } 2 C 6 H 4 is centrosymmetric and adopts an `S' conformation that is stabilized by intramolecular CÐHÁÁÁp interactions. The tin atom exists within a distorted tetrahedron defined by a C 2 Cl 2 donor set.
