✦ Synopsis


The photoisomerization and photoionization reactions of fumaronitrile through its exciplexes with some aromatic electron donors haa been studied with the aid of nanosecond laser photolysis and gas chromatography. The rate of the transcia iaomerization reaction is found to be strongly enhanced by dissolved oxy8en. The mechanism of the reaction is analysed quantitatively in terms of oxygen enhanced singlet-triplet intersystem crossing.
