'I'he following report represents material from collections made in l!R2 by Dr. Richard Woltereck's expedition to Hawaii, the Philippines, Celehes, Flores, Bali and Java.
Very little work has previoiisly been done on the entomostraca of the Philippine Islands and none whatever on the freshwater Ostracoda. Seventeen species of Ostracoda representing ten genera are here reported from these islands. Of these, eleven appear to be new species and a new genus has been formed t o include an ostracod which seems to belong to no existing genns. Many forms, ivhicli have been reported from Africa or neighboring islands, have been foiind in the Philippines. The genus Oncocypris as well as Stenocypris were previonsly confined to Africa a1 though recently Oncocypris has been reported from Ceylon and Stenocypris is also found in .\sia, Australia and Furtos (1936) has found it in Yucatan. The typically South American genus, Strandesia also has been found in the Philippines in our material.
Some work has been done on the ostracods of the other islands with the possible exception of Celebes and Bali from which locations no reports could be found. In Celebes at Sidenreng (the only collections which contained Ostracoda from this island), no new species were encountered but Cypris subglobosa which has been previously described from Java and Sumatra by Klie was noticed. Also, the widely distributed Stenocypriv malcolmsoni was found and the large Hungarocypris gawenniiilleri which had previously been reported from Sumatra (Vavra 1906) was found a t Sidenreng. Stenocgpris fontina1i.s known
