With the acquisition of Warman International completed (see Pump Industry Analyst, October 1999), Weir executive director David Dunbar wasted no time in getting management teams from Warman and Weir working together to plan for the future.
As soon as the legal process was completed in September. executives from the enlarged slurry pump group flew Lo Warman's Sydney headquarters to hold the first of a series of strategy meetings. Dunbar says the initial task is to gain an understanding of each other's business and IO work hand-in-hand to formulate plans for further success in the slurry industry. Dunbar'\ intention is to build on the marketing. product development. best practice and capacity planning philosophies developed by Warman for slurry pumps and spares.
Warman, ASH. Galigher and Schabaver will form the slurry group. which will be centered in Australia. Two task teams, headed up by Allan Wightley. Warman's general manager, group technology. and by Geoff Moore, responseble for Warman corporate marketing. were set up (0 address immediate product development and marketing issues.
At the same time as the four day Sydney meeting wah taking place. representatives from Weir Pumps. Girdlestone and Begemann held discussions in the L'K about the be:,t way to maximise their market share in process pumps.
John Hood, the former managing director of Weir Pumps who I-rds responsibility for developing new products and markets, has also set up .J working group to find ways of increasing sales of Hazleton vertical pumps, mainly in North America as well as overseas.
