✦ Synopsis
Two solid solutions, In(Fe 1؊x Ti x )O 3؉x/ 2 (orthorhombic phase, Cmcm, 0.504x40.69) and In(Fe 1؊x Ti x )O 3؉x/2 (monoclinic phase, C2/m, 0.734x40.75) in the pseudobinary system InFeO 3 +In 2 Ti 2 O 7 were synthesized at 13003C in air. Their crystal structures which were determined by powder X-ray di4ractometry were closely related to those of the delafossite, (hex.)InFeO 3 and the pyrochlore. The crystal structural relationships between InFeO 3 , In(Fe 1؊x Ti x )O 3؉x/2 , and the pyrochlore were discussed in terms of the stacking of the two-dimensional closest packed oxygen layers. The isostructural solid solutions, In(Al 1؊x Ti x )O 3؉x/2 , In(Cr 1؊x Ti x )O 3؉x/2 , In(Ga 1؊x Ti x )O 3؉x/2 , In(Fe 1/3 Ti 1/ 2 Mg 1/6 )O 19/6 , and In(Ga 0.30 Ti 0.45 Mg 0.25 )O 3.10 were also synthesized and their lattice constants were determined.
