✦ Synopsis
In this article, we propose an orthogonally polarized multicarrier modulation system called orthogonal polarization and frequency division multiplexing (OPFDM) that transmits by making use of orthogonal polarizations in the orthogonal multicarrier modulation system called orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM). Since the adjacent subchannels are placed to the orthogonal polarizations in the proposed system, the main lobes of the frequency spectra within the same polarization do not overlap each other. Hence, the adjacent subchannel interference caused by random FM noise and frequency offset can be reduced. In this article, adjacent subchannel interference caused by random noise is derived by theoretical analysis. Further, by means of theoretical analysis and computer simulation, error-rate characteristics are obtained in order to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed system.
