More than human, less than a god, John O'Ryan is Orion, made by the mysterious Creators who rule outside of time - created to do battle for them, and to die for them, up and down the timeline from the primal past to the unimaginable future. But Orion is more than the Creators intended. He can fall in love, and has - with Anya, unreachable goddess plighted to Aten the Golden. And Orion can hate the Creators, particularly Aten, who trifles with him as he would a plaything. Now the Creators have plunged into civil war, with Anya and Aten commanding opposite sides - and Aten has placed Orion out of reach, far up the timeline from his twentieth-century origins, trapped amidst the gore of a vicious, multi-sided interstellar war between several factions of humanity and several alien races. But Orion, once John O'Ryan, intends to be more than cannon fodder for the plans of others. In the face of overwhelming odds, he must earn his regiment's loyalty, save them from certain doom, and fight his way across a hostile galaxy to his beloved's side.
