The payment demanded is Elgins infant son. Elgin hatches a plan to kidnap Kermodes son Durst. Idellsa is killed. Durst is given to the Roman in place of Elgins son. The lives are Kermode and Durst are played out from the wild forests of Britain to the marbled city of Rome.
