Abstract

Ordered CrPt~3~ which has the AuCu~3~ type structure is known to be ferrimagnetic. The f.c.c. disordered CrPt, phase has been obtained by severe cold work and is found to behave as a paramagnet. Through thermomagnetic analysis and consideration of neighbours. this paramagnetism is tentatively ascribed to a kind of antiferrornagnetism. The forced disordered atomic arrangement results in a incoherent distribution of localized moments without apparent external moment. The magnetic properties of partially ordered samples have also been studied.
