The half lives of the following excited nuclear states have been measured with delayed coincidence techniques: 145 keV level in Pr14t: TI/2 ~ (19 4-2) X 10 -1Β° sec 163 keY level in LaUΒ°: Tll 2 = (15 4-1) X 10 -1Β° sec 160 keV level in I'~I:
Tll 2 ----( 9 4-1) x 10 -1Β° sec 279 keV level in TllU: 2"1/2 = (1.2 4-0.3) x 10 -1Β° sec Theoretical points of view about these/-forbidden (Al = 2, A i = 1) Nil transitions are briefly reviewed and it is shown that the matrix elements derived from the experimental half lives are in reasonable agreement with expectations based on the spin-orbit coupling encountered in the shell model.
