β¦ Synopsis
The cooperative ordering of degenerate d-orbitals in two-dimensional ferromagnets of K 2CuF4 type is considered by employing both the usual Jahn-Teller mechanism and the superexchange one. The orbital structure obtained differs from that usually assumed for K2CuF4 the latter is shown to be incompatible with the observed ferromagnetic ordering.
THE properties of magnetic insulators, containing
antiferromagnets.
5 This is obviously connected with Jahn-Teller ions with two-fold orbital degeneracy the orbital degeneracy of Cu2~ion, which has one (e.g. ions Cu2~, Cr2~, Mn3Δ©n octahedral coordination) eg-hole in octahedral interstice. The aim of this paper in many aspects differ from the properties of similar is to clarify this connection and to describe theorecompounds with orbitally non-degenerate ground tically the orbital (and corresponding crystalline) and state. These substances often have a more compli-magnetic structure of such substances. For definitecated magnetic structure, and transitions with a ness further on we shall speak about K 2CuF4. change of lattice symmetry are usually observed in them.
