โœฆ Synopsis

Oracle Applications (a.k.a. Oracle E-Business Suite) are a set of packaged business applications designed to handle complex business processes for medium-to-large companies. It encompasses products such as Supply Chain Management, Customer Relationship Management and Financial Management (the latter being the most popular and prevalent). Many Oracle Applications DBAs undertake the role of administering the Oracle E-Business Suite with minimal training or exposure to Enterprise Relationship Programs (ERP). Even for the experienced DBA, Oracle Applications are complicated to administer and often a real headache. Unfortunately, most documentation to assist an Oracle Applications DBA is difficult to find and understand. Oracle Applications DBA Field Guide provides a toolkit of scripts, notes, references, and guidelines to guide the DBA safely through all of the vital day-to-day admin tasks that fall within their remit, including configuration, monitoring, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and patching. The authors are both highly active and recognized figures in the Oracle Apps community and the content of their book is culled from years of experience in the field. It incorporates time-proven best practices for administering the highly complex Oracle E-Business Suite and contains proven tips and techniques for Oracle Applications DBAs in an easy to read and quick to navigate format. Whether the reader is an experienced Oracle Apps DBA or a relative newcomer to Oracle (perhaps migrating from PeopleSoft or Siebel*) this book will provide them with advice and techniques that will make a real impact on the ease and efficiency of their day-to-day administrative tasks. The content of the guide is based on Oracle Applications 11i. The next release is Oracle Applications 12 due in late 2006; however, it will be based upon the technology stack used in Oracle Applications 11i; therefore many topics covered in the book will not change with the next release. With Oracle's recent acquisition of PeopleSoft and Siebel they have pretty much bought their way to number one in the CRM Applications market. There are a LOT of people who are going to have to start assessing and migrating to Oracle Applications. It's a very interesting time to be doing this book.
