Abstract
This qualitative study explores eight upwardly mobile, professional Generation X women who took an introspective approach to making a career transition. Irving Seidman's phenomenological‐based approach to in‐depth interviewing was used to examine the internal, subjective experiences of intentional career transitions and the experience of meaning making. Each participant's story revealed aspects of an inward journey resulting in a recommitment to work that allowed an integration of the participant's needs for achievement, challenge, and continued learning with more meaning and authenticity.
