โฆ Synopsis
Application. Seedlings in pots and in the field can be sprayed with gibberellin A 4 " to promote pollen-and seed-cone production . This early production of cones, and subsequently seed, on seedlings can speed up tree breeding . Potted seedlings with pollen and seed cones can also be forced to shed pollen and to flower in a heated greenhouse, thereby providing the breeders with an opportunity to carry out controlled pollination outside the natural pollination period . The genetically improved seed acquired from selected trees can be used to raise seedlings for advanced-generation breeding and to produce planting stock for progeny testing with a much shortened breeding cycle .
