โœฆ Synopsis

An analysis of the influence of the non-uniform distribution of the active species in a catalyst pellet on the effectiveness factor and point yield for the van de Vusse reaction network is carried out. The effect of diierent parameters on the poiat yield for a single pellat and on the integral yield for a fixed bed reactor is studied, and the optimum activity distribution is determined.

Existence of multiple steady states and sustained oscillations in catalyst pellet with Dirac delta activity distribution and bimolecular reaction with Langmuir-Hinshelwood rate expression is numerically established. In addition it is shown that deactivation may lead to temporary oscillations.

A single pellet diffusion reactor (SPDR) of new design has been used to investigate the influence of nonuniform distributions of active ingredient on the Ni-catalyzed hydrogenation of benzene. Five different distributions, ranging from preferential shell-loading to uniform to preferential core loadi
