The important and direct relation between the Smith chart and the standing-wave ratio measurements in transmission lines is treated next.

The negative Smith chart, introduced in Chapter 12, is valuable for the solution of active network problems, especially such circuits as a parametric and tunnel diode reflection amplifiers. Special uses of the Smith chart, of which there are a goodly number, are also discussed. The final chapter explains and gives the commercial sources of various instruments that have been developed using the Smith chart coordinate system as the basis for solving transmission line problems. A helpful glossary of Smith chart terms, two appendices and an extensive bibliography complete the volume.
