✦ Synopsis

The world trend is to save energy and its'best use. One of the ways is the dual purpose plant in sea water desalination area, with simultaneous production of desalinated water and electrical power. The combinated production improves the efficiency of thermic cycle and the utilization of fuel is better than separately production. The characteristics of plant such as water/power ratio and the economy ratio will be determinated for the dual plants so that the desing values mus't be the optimum point out of all possible values. The optimum relationship water/power and economy will be determinated as a function of the yearly bank rate, the amortization period in years, the fuel cost, the utilization factor, etc. Definitively, the optimum point.is a function

A thermodynamic approach to the synthesis of a dual-purpose desalination system is developed. In a previous paper (Irazoqui, 1986, Chern. Engng Sci. 41,1243-1255), it was shown that a minimum for the system entropy generation corresponds, if adequate restrictions were imposed, to an optimum in the t

Exergy provides the cost accounting equatiens for allocating energy in any plant. Sets of complex auxiliary equations can be derived to allocate energy cost for each plant item and system. Here a simplified alternate method has been developed utilizing the First Law of Thermodynamics with considerat
