However, the above system has improved sensitivity of less than ng/s. The selectivity is far better than that of an electron capture detector and the response is not totally independent of the number of elements, whereas the response of an electron capture detector is related to the chemical structure, not to the number of atoms, and a large change of response factors is observed [ll]. However, further improvement of the monitoring system is necessary before this system can be used in environmental analyses.
