Abstract

A new design approach for wideband amplifiers with inductive shunt peaking is presented. An accurate circuit model and a well‐defined rule to size the shunt inductance are introduced to control the oscillations in the amplifier step response by fixing the desired damping factor of the amplifier poles. The proposed strategy guarantees systematic settling time minimization for a given power dissipation and is very suitable to design efficient amplifiers for wideband applications demanding high pulse fidelity. Design examples in a commercial 0.13‐μm CMOS technology are also presented. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the method. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
