✦ Synopsis

Sumnmry--The investigation is concerned with the dynamic optimization of the staggered parallel system of operating blast furnace stoves. Stationary periodic operation is assumed and optimality is defined in terms of thermal efficiency. The optimization equations are formulated and a numerical approach is developed. Numerical results are given and a comparison is made with two types of four-stove serial operation. It is found that staggered parallel operation of the stoves is not very critical and that it is thermally more efficient than serial operation.
