✦ Synopsis

A simplified version of the optimal L2-approximation of stable transfer function matrices is considered, where the poles of the approximant are fixed. The optimality condition is represented as an interpolation condition, which is further reduced to a linear equation with a positive definite coefficient matrix. Some distinctive characteristics of the optimal approximation are derived. A simple and explicit representation for the minimum approximation error is given as a function of poles.
