✦ Synopsis

The optimal heating rate for a plate with temperature dependent thermal conductivity and two internally located continuous plane heat sources of dtflerent strength is so determined that at the jnal spectfied time tf, the final temperature distribution T, in the slab approximated as closely as possible a spect$ed uncform temperature T, with a minimum amount of energy used for the heating. The locations and the timewise variation of the strengths of the plane heat sources satisfying such requirements are determined.
