Abstract
For long‐haul and high‐bit‐rate optical transmission systems, the trend is to deploy a dispersion compensation scheme. In the design of such a scheme, optimal DCR shall be carefully chosen for different situations, such as different signal power and transmission length. This Letter describes the simulation of the dispersion‐managed systems of 40‐Gb/s bit rate. The DCR values for different signal power and transmission length are different. An explanation is given for the differences, and the proper design scheme for the high‐bit‐rate dispersion‐managed system for different situations. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
