Abstract
This paper presents the use of plastic optical fibers (POFs) as a weighing balance. A force sensor with a critically adjusted pair of deforming plates and weighing 1 g to 3 kg is constructed, having an accuracy of 1% over the range of ±0.5% linearity with regard to response and a recovery time of 250 msec with no observable hysteresis. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
