✦ Synopsis
An optical probing method has been used to measure the kinetic energy released to neutral fragments in dissociative charge exchange of Hz ions with c&urn. By monitoring the laser-induced fluorescence of the Balmer beta atomic line (n=2en=4), specific molecular fragmentation to the H ( 1 s) + H (21) dissociation limits was observed, Predissociation of n = 3 Rydberg states is invoked as the dominant channel for H( n = 2) production.
