β¦ Synopsis
We indicate that an optical study of the ortho-para hydrogen magnetic conversion is possible for molecules adsorbed on a magnetic substrate. It is shown that photons are emitted during the catalytic conversion and that this emission, although weak, might be detected. We suggest that the optical pumping of an adsorbed hydrogen layer would strengthen the reaction, allow experiments to be performed on regular surfaces, and give estimates on surface interactions.
