✦ Synopsis

Thin films that consist of alternating monolayers of poly(N-(p-heneicosafluorodecy1su1fonylphenyl)-L-prolinol acrylate) and poly( 2-(p-( l-oxy-l-trifluoromethyl-2,2-diheptafluoroisopropylethylene)phe~yl)-2-oxazoline)

are prepared by the Langmuir-Blodgett method, As revealed by optical second-harmonic generation, the multilayer films exhibit a high degree of polar orientational order with long-term stability. as well as good optical quality.

We demonstrate that the Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) method provides us with polymer films of considerably high x@). The investigation has been made on the monolayer films of PMMA partially substituted for disperse red at the air/water interface (L film) or on a substrate (LB film). The maximum surface su
