Abstract
The spectral reflectance of TiN single crystals in the energy range between 0.5 and 6.2 eV is investigated. The crystals are grown by chemical vapour deposition. They have a very exact stoichiometric composition and a low content of impurities. The reflectance spectra are obtained on grown surfaces and analyzed by means of the Kramers‐Kronig dispersion relations as well as by fitting a Lorentz‐Drude model. It results that, in addition to the well‐known intraband and interband absorption, also direct transitions between the conduction subbands contribute to the optical absorption.

## Abstract The optical properties of cadmium single crystals and of a cadmium film deposited by vacuum evaporation were measured in the energy range from 0.5 to 5.5 eV in dependence on temperature, crystal orientation, and the pressure in the vacuum chamber. The results prove that oxide layers bec
