Abstract
Measurements are reported of the fundamental optical absorption edge, its temperature dependence and anisotropy, for pure and copperβdoped Ξ²βAgI single crystals grown by the gel method. The temperature range spans the Ξ² β Ξ± phase transition. Studies of photoluminescence and cathodoluminescence are also described, and interpreted in terms of band and defect structure.
