## Abstract Guiding properties of optical fiber with Kerr‐like nonlinearity are studied numerically using the finite‐difference beam‐propagation method to solve the scalar‐wave equation. The nonlinear fiber is shown to support fields with longitudinally invariant radial distributions having a mean‐
