Abstract

An analytic atomic active electron model potential adjusted to experimental single‐particle energy levels is used to generate wave functions for the valence and excited states of O^1+^, F^2+^, Ne^3+^, Na^4+^, and Mg^5+^. Using these wave functions in conjunction with the Born approximation and the LS‐coupling scheme, we calculate optical oscillator strengths for excitations from the 1__s__^2^2__s__^2^2__p__^3^(^4^S~3/2~) ground state. The results are compared to experimental data and other calculations. Systematic trends along the isoelectronic sequence are discussed.
