✦ Synopsis


A large optically induced absorption change was observed in free-standing porous silicon films. Using this phenomenon, we have demonstrated all-optical logic gates such as inverter or NOR functions and optical bistable experiments for constructing optical memory and computing. The combination of the optical nonlinearities and the strong luminescence can open a way to fabricate silicon-based all-optical computing systems.
