Abstract
Single crystals of oxide diluted magnetic semiconductor Zn~1βx~ Mn~x~ O have been grown by chemical vapour transport and thin films of Zn~1βx~ Mn~x~ O, Zn~1βx βy~ Mn~x~ Fe~y~ O have been deposited by pulsed laser ablation and rf magnetron sputtering methods. Optical absorption spectra of the obtained crystals and films have features associated with bandβtoβband direct type transitions and dβd crystalβfield transitions due to presence of Mn^2+^ ions. The observed peculiarities of the Faraday rotation for Zn~1βx~ Mn~x~ O crystals and films suggest of paramagnetic behaviour. In contrast, Zn~1βx βy~ Mn~x~ Fe~y~ O film samples exhibit ferromagneticβlike behaviour which is confirmed on typical magnetic field dependence of the Faraday rotation at room temperature.
