✦ Synopsis

A calculation of the optical absorption of the polarons undergoing Varma's phenomenological constraints has been performed in order to interpret the infrared absorption features in high-T¢ superconductors. The temperature and phonon relaxation effects on the absorption are calculated. It is suggested that the normal-state carriers in the superconducting state are responsible for the absence of the expected absorption onset shift in the experiments. It seems that this model can satisfactorily interpret the infrared absorption features in high-To superconductors.
