✦ Synopsis

Etzel and Schulman i) made an extensive optical study of X-ray irradiated silveractivated alkali halide crystals. Next to the F-band, they found a number of absorption bands which they respectively called the A, B, C, D and E bands. The same authors also proposed models of the absorption centers responsible for these bands, the E band excepted. These models (Rees notation 3)) as well as the wave lengths of the absorption maxima are shown in table I.
