✦ Synopsis
Despite decades of accumulating scientific knowledge of ergonomics principles, many workplace designs fail to incorporate human factors considerations. This paper proposes a general model of the organisational process which influences the degree to which the human side of humanmachine systems is considered in workplace design. A case example is described which illustrates an innovative approach to workplace design and redesign at an automotive plant.
