✦ Synopsis

In the conservative and operative treatment of fractures of the forearm pseudarthroses are not uncommon. This failure of operative treatment is favoured by choosing the wrong type of operative procedure and by interoperative mistakes.

In our series we found, that the treatment of choice in treating pseudarthroscs of the forearm is a fixation by plate and if necessary combined with additional autologeous bone grafting. We could achieve a complete bony restitution in 69 of 70 patients.

An early active motion is allowed by stabile osteosynthesis, leading in many cases to an amelioration or normalization of function. In the postoperative phase in 46--90% the range of joint motion was ameliorated after stabilizing the pseudarthrosis.
