✦ Synopsis
The Oxford Hybrid Magnet came into routine use in 1975. This system has been developed for widely differing research applications and its day to day operation is user oriented. In this paper the authors describe their experience with this complex facility in which a large superconductive magnet is operated in conjunction with a high power resistive coil. Particular attention is paid to the safety aspects connected with the preparation and running of the system on a reliable and regular basis and the problems associated with refrigeration and general cryogenics are discussed. A description is given of the modes of operation of this system in generating magnetic fields for research up to 16 7-.
