She had suffered from a recent exacerbation of a chronic cough, and for three months previous to admission had expectorated blood-stained sputum; since the age of 18 she had had a slight cough.
There was no pain in the chest; dyspnea on exertion was present; and there had been some cedema of the feet and ankles which followed attacks of palpitations.
