Second in the trilogy, following One Pink Rose (Pocket, 1997), One White Rose concerns Douglas Clayborne, who comes to a rundown ranch to claim a horse he is buying and ends up playing midwife and then protector to the beleaguered widow of the man he has come to see. Well-maintatined sexual tension and some great one-liners mark this title. In One Red Rose, Adam, former runaway slave, family scholar, and oldest of the Clayborne brothers, meets his matrimonial match (with a bit of help from Mama Rose) in the beautiful?and stubborn?Genevieve Perry. A plot that is frightening and funny in turn deftly advances a series that concludes this December with the publication in hardcover of Come the Spring (see Prepub Alert, LJ p. 58). Adam Clayborne is not the marrying kind. So when he comes home to find a woman in his bed claiming to be his bride, Adam's first instinct is to run. When the woman in question turns out to be in some kind of trouble, Adam knows he has to help her. But helping her and marrying her are two different things! Of course, she insists she doesn't want his help and proceeds to tell him all kinds of lies. It infuriates him, but Adam's thoughts keep straying from the task at hand to the woman he'd like to hold in his arms Genevieve Perry has been dreaming about Adam Clayborne for two years. Her dreams didn't do the man justice. As much as Genevieve likes the idea of being married to such a handsome and honorable man as Adam, she knows she can't. The best thing for her to do is leave Rosehill Ranch and forget Adam. But Genevieve hasn't counted on the determination that runs in the Clayborne family! In the third book of the Rose trilogy, Julie Garwood gives us Adam's story. From beginning to end, it is an entertaining adventure. Adam and Genevieve are a wonderful pair and the rest of the Claybornes make a welcome appearance as well.
